The situation

Based in Augusta, Georgia, the Richmond County School System serves over 28,000 students. After selecting Canvas LMS in 2019, the district urgently rolled it out in 2020, prompting leaders to seek implementation support.

Insights

District leadership saw that Canvas could—and needed to—do more than host instructional content. It could also model a high-quality LMS experience. That led to Richmond Ready, a professional learning experience that raised expectations across the district. As more faculty members experienced what was possible with Canvas, they began requesting their own high-impact courses, inspiring the team to look at more strategic support from Instructure.

Solution

To bring the vision of high-quality Canvas experiences for both students and faculty to life, Richmond County expanded its partnership with Instructure Services. A dedicated strategic learning consultant helped to build high-impact courses for HR onboarding, leadership playbooks, student behavior modules, and student-facing orientation programs. The Canvas Certified Educator program appealed to the district as yet another option to deepen instructional alignment and create a shared language for faculty in using Canvas effectively

Outcomes

Canvas is woven into the professional fabric of the district. The collaborative model of Instructure Services allows Richmond County to align custom-built courses with its initiatives while freeing the digital learning team to focus on directly supporting teachers. Internal expertise, paired with Instructure consultancy, allows the district to respond quickly to initiatives like AI literacy and a district-wide digital citizenship course, while continually reinforcing the firm foundation of high-quality Canvas experiences.
